Over the past 5 years, killer whales have been hunted in Tasiilaq in East Greenland. Killer whales have the highest concentrations of environmental contaminants in the Arctic, even higher than the polar bear. For the locals and their sled dogs, whales constitute a food source. During August – September 2013, researchers from Aarhus University, Greenland Institute of Natural Resources and University of Copenhagen will collect samples from the whales, as well as blood samples from the hunters to assess the impact of this catch.
