Primary transport and mixing processes in the Godthåbsfjord and Kobbefjord

We analyzed new and existing data and applied numerical modeling to describe the primary transport and mixing processes in Godthåbsfjord and Kobbefjord. The data analysis consider previous ADCP and CTD measurements of currents, temperature, salinity, oxygen, fluorescence and turbidity. The transport of the major water masses in the fjord are being analyzed, i.e. Sill region Water, Bottom Water and the upper water masses influenced by runoff and subglacial freshwater discharge. The model studies include a high-resolution 3D model of Godthåbsfjord with adjacent areas (including Kobbefjord and Ameralik) and a detailed model of Kobbefjord. The models will be validated against hydrographic measurements in the fjords, and transport and mixing rates will be quantified. The models include a biogeochemical component and the coupling between physical and biological processes will be analyzed.
