In this project we will advance towards full carbon and energy exchange estimates over land at Zackenberg. We will supplement ongoing efforts by the GeoBasis monitoring programme in the area. The project consists of three sub-projects: 1) Snow-pack measurements of CO2 and CH4 concentrations and snow-atmosphere exchange including ?13C signatures in CH4; 2) carbon concentration measurements in runoff water from fen ecosystems of relevance for land-marine interactions; and 3) a summer campaign with a mobile eddy covariance system (CO2, CH4, energy) planned to be installed in Zackenberg river delta. The objectives are to improve upon current understanding of snow-atmosphere greenhouse gas interactions; investigate the importance of land-marine couplings; and to expand GeoBasis activities within greenhouse gas and energy exchange measurements in time and space.
