Mercury transport and transformation across the sea ice environment

We will study the distribution of total and methylated mercury in snow, sea ice (including brine) and underlying water column, with a specific emphasis on 1) how mercury is transported from the cryosphere to the aquatic system via brine and via melt ponds, and 2) whether microbial methylation of mercury occurs in snow, sea ice, or the water column (via sinking particles or copepods).
