Long-range transport of particle pollution to the Arctic and physical properties of Arctic aerosols

Following up on the scientific questions to be addressed, the major tasks from a particle perspective are:
- To study the particle physical properties in terms of number, size and mass at a higher Arctic site in dependence on their seasonal variation
- To study the chemical speciation of these particles in order to deduct information on their origin and climate impact
- To identify the transport pathways of long-range transported particles to the Arctic by back trajectory analysis
In addition - if possible – we will determine parameters as hygroscopic growth , CCN activity, water activity or surface tension of Arctic aerosol samples in order to deduct information on the cloud building potential of such aerosols
