Masayo Ogi (University of Manitoba). This presentation examines the variations of surface temperature and sea level pressure associated with the Greenland station temperatures and sea ice extents surrounding Greenland. During wintertime, the Greenland station temperatures on the west and south coasts of Greenland and the sea ice extent in Baffin Bay are associated with variations in surface temperature over Baffin Bay. The winter North Atlantic Oscillation influences the west and south coasts of Greenland and the sea ice extent in Baffin Bay. The Greenland station temperatures on the east coast of Greenland and the sea ice extents in the Greenland and Kara-Barents Seas are associated with variations in surface temperatures over the Greenland and Barents Seas. A cyclonic circulation in the Barents Sea influences the sea ice extents in the Greenland and Kara-Barents Seas.
During summertime, all Greenland station temperatures and all sea ice extents are correlated with the surface temperatures over mid-latitudes. The summer Arctic Oscillation influences the variations and trends in all Greenland station temperatures and all sea ice extents.
