How to reach ARC

Denmark is well-connected to the rest of Scandinavia and Continental Europe, and you can reach Aarhus by plane, bus, train, ferry or car. 

By plane

!!! NOTE that it is often cheaper and more convenient to fly to Copenhagen and catch a train to Aarhus, rather than flying all the way to Aarhus !!!

Copenhagen Airport/Kastrup (CPH) is the largest airport in Denmark. From here, you can catch a train to Aarhus. The train ride takes approximately 3½ hours and costs 418 DKK (incl. seat ticket).

You can check out the train schedule and book your ticket at the Journey planner (from Københavns Lufthavn St. to Aarhus st.). If you want to reserve a seat, book a 'pladsbillet'.

Aarhus Airport is located approximately 40 km north of the city. An airport bus service operates between the airport and the city. The bus ride takes approximately 50 minutes. Tickets are sold on the bus (major credit cards with a chip and EUR, GBP, USD, NOK, SEK and CHF are accepted). See timetable.

Billund Airport is located 100 kilometres south of Aarhus, and from there, you can take bus 912X to Aarhus. See timetable.

Bus stop near ARC:

  • Aarhus Bus Station (Rutebilstationen). From there, you can reach ARC in one of the following ways:
    • bus 1A: direction 'Holmkær/Vestermøllevej' - get off at 'Aarhus Sygehus' and walk the rest of the way (directions)
    • bus 13: direction 'Vejlby Nord' - get off at 'Aarhus Sygehus' and walk the rest of the way (directions).
    • bus 16: direction 'Hasle' - get off at 'Langelandsgade/Kasserneboulevarden' and walk the rest of the way (directions)

By bus

You can catch Abildskou's Linie 888 between Copenhagen and Aarhus. The bus ride (including the ferry ride across Kattegat) takes approximately 3 hours. You can catch the bus directly from Copenhagen Airport to Aarhus Bus Station (Rutebilstationen)See timetable.

From Aarhus Bus Station, you can hop on one of the following city busses (they are numbered on the front and back).

  • bus 1A: direction 'Holmkær/Vestermøllevej' - get off at 'Aarhus Sygehus, Nørrebrogade' and walk the rest of the way (directions)
  • 2A: direction 'Skejby Sygehus' - get off at 'Langelandsgade/Kasserneboulevarden' and walk the rest of the way (directions)
  • bus 16: direction 'Hasle' - get off at 'Langelandsgade/Kasserneboulevarden' and walk the rest of the way (directions)

An adult single ticket costs 20 DKK.

By train

On DSB Journey Planner, you can check out train schedules to Aarhus (to: Aarhus St.) from other stations in Denmark – language settings are found in the top right-hand corner.

From the Railway Station, turn your back to the main entrance, cross the road (go to the 7-Eleven), turn left and continue around the corner at Burger King. This is Park Allé where most city busses pass. You can hop on one of the following busses (they are numbered on the front and back).

  • bus 1A: direction 'Holmkær/Vestermøllevej' - get off at 'Aarhus Sygehus' and walk the rest of the way (directions)
  • 2A: direction 'Skejby Sygehus' - get off at 'Langelandsgade/Kasserneboulevarden' and walk the rest of the way (directions)
  • bus 15: direction 'Skejby Nordlandsvej' - get off at 'Aarhus Sygehus' and walk the rest of the way (directions)

By ferry

Mols-Linien operates a ferry service between Aarhus and Sjællands Odde. The ferry ride takes approximately 50 minutes. It is possible to be a walking passenger. See timetable.

From the ferry terminal in Aarhus, you can reach ARC like this:

  • Go to Hjortholmsvej/Fiskerivej
  • Hop on bus 33 (direction: 'Aarhus Rutebilstation' - get off at 'Nørreport')
  • Change to bus 1A (direction: Holmkær/Vestermøllevej - get off at 'Aarhus Sygehus'
  • Walk the rest of the way (directions)

By car

Aarhus has direct connections to the great European network of motorways, and the Danish road network allows easy access to the city. Motorway E45 which runs through Europe (under different names) passes through Aarhus. The road crosses motorway E20 in Kolding, make sure to go north from there.

ARC is located at Ole Worms Allé 1, buildings 1130-1134-1135. Parking places in the campus area are limited.
