Polar Benthic Diversity

Seafloor communities are often severely understudied, as they are difficult to access. Although, Arctic seafloor communities are incredibly diverse and important to ecosystem functioning, we know very little about them. This hampers our ability to detect changes in seafloor communities and protect them from anthropogenic exploitation. Here we aim to better characterize seafloor communities, their large scale and local environmental drivers, their role within the marine ecosystem through food-web studies and their resilience to climate change and climate change mediated disturbance, such as invasion by range expanding and introduced taxa or mechanical disturbance such as iceberg scouring and anthropogenic impact
