Matthew Walsh received his PhD in anthropology with specialization in archaeology from the University of Montana. Matt specializes in zooarchaeology and assessing change in prehistoric hunter-gatherer subsistence strategies. Much of his work  integrates environmental archaeology and studies of evolutionary patterns in cultural change and technological adaptation. He is an avid flintknapper, lithics analyst and lithics illustrator. He has worked in the Russian Far East, Chilean Patagonia, Alaska, British Columbia, and throughout northwestern North America. His recent research has focused on testing hypotheses regarding various prehistoric migrations of high latitude hunter-gatherers through the application of cladistics and cultural phylogenetic methods to archaeological artifact and features analyses.
