Polar bears having a party with the Greenland Integrated Observing System

Scientists from Arctic Research Centre at Aarhus University have just visited the Zackenberg Research Station in Northeast Greenland to make a service on some of the autonomous instruments they up there logging near-real time data from the air, ice, land, rivers and ocean.

During winter we lost contact with a few instruments and after the inspection of the site and download of photos we discovered the problem. See photo attached. Seems like two Polar bears had a party and adjusted our instruments 22 December at 1:21 pm. Indeed, it is not always easy to prepare for everything – However, new instruments have been mounted and transmit data again. More information on the Greenland Integrated Observing System (GIOS) program can be found at the GIOS homepage.
